The Wharton Borough Public Schools Board of Education Issues Statement on Violence, Rhetoric, and Respectful Dialogue
The Wharton Borough Public School Board of Education today released a statement reaffirming its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, staff, and families.
As a district, we are deeply committed to promoting curiosity, critical thinking, and open dialogue. Our schools encourage students to ask questions, express their opinions, and engage with one another thoughtfully, even when they disagree. We believe these skills are fundamental to preparing students for participation in a diverse society.
At the same time, the Board is clear that violence, hateful rhetoric, and personal attacks have no place in our classrooms, schools, or community. Disagreement is natural and healthy, but harm – whether verbal, emotional, or physical – is never acceptable.
“Our mission is to create an environment where every student feels safe to learn, share ideas, and grow,” said Board President Robin Ghebreal, President of the Wharton Borough Public Schools Board of Education. “We value debate and the free exchange of ideas, but we draw a firm line when it comes to hatred or harm toward others. Respect for one another is a non-negotiable cornerstone of our schools.”
The Board encourages students, staff, and families to model constructive dialogue, to seek understanding across differences, and to find common ground where possible. By doing so, we strengthen not only our school community but also the character and resilience of our students.
