• Marie V. Duffy Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to the Marie V. Duffy Elementary School!  We are a community coming together to support students learning to thrive in a dynamic world.  Our goals are to further the academic achievement of all of our students, increase parent and community involvement, and continue to improve our culture and climate.

DUFFY FORCE, our student team, works with our staff team to consistently improve the culture and climate of the Duffy School.  I invite you to check out the video they created in the spring of 2016, to share the progress in our culture and climate initiative, by clicking below.

Our parent liaison, Leticia Marquez, is a daily support and connection to the school for parents.  She not only is privy to all the latest information on happenings in the school, but she also hosts parent workshops and is here to provide parents with hands-on technology support with our Grade Portal and messenger systems.

Our school district has invested in providing the latest technology to all of our classrooms enabling teachers to personalize instruction through programs like KidBiz, Sumdog, Arcademics, and Brainpop.  All classrooms are now equipped with document cameras to facilitate instruction and support student learning. Please join us in our challenge to meet our district goals for the benefit of our children.

We added an integrated preschool program this year to give our youngest students a strong start.  This program meets the needs of all preschoolers, some with special needs.  We also continue to support local, privately run preschools.  Our new multiply disabled program extends the support we are able to offer the students of Wharton.

During the 2015-16 school year, we introduced Recipe for Reading in our kindergarten through second grade classrooms.  This multi-faceted instruction focuses on reading fundamentals and meshes beautifully with the Reading and Writing Workshop model of instruction we use.  It was so successful, this year we are expanding the program all the way through fifth grade.

PLCs, Professional Learning Communities for our staff, are supported this year through grant funding.  It is perfect timing with the introduction of the new Science standards, recently revised curriculum based on those standards, and new corresponding instructional materials there is need for increased collaboration.
